Space Patch Design Contest

1/25/2025 1:01 pm

Art in Space?? The Space Patch Design Contest is a one-year opportunity for students to have an artwork sent to the International Space Station and back. To enter, your student must create a Mission Patch - a paper 3.5-inch x 3.5-inch square emblem that captures your love for outer space, exploration, learning, etc. - and submit to Ms. Briggs on or before Friday, February 7th.

Mission patches have been part of human spaceflight since the days of Project Mercury in the 1960s (see, e.g.this page at the NASA History Program Office). The SSEP Mission Patch competition therefore allows communities to engage in another authentic aspect of the space program, and broadens SSEP to be more appropriately designated as a STEAM education initiative – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
